Maguire's contract with the Owls expired in the summer and he ended up joining Yorkshire rivals Rotherham, but the striker admits that he never intended to leave Hillsborough.

"It's not that I wanted to leave, it's a fantastic football club and I spent a lot of time there," said Maguire to Sky Sports.

"Over the last year and half, since I was given that opportunity to play, I felt I showed my worth to the team and that I deserved a better contract than what I got offered."

Maguire revealed that he felt his statistics while with the Owls meant that he was worthy of an improved contract.

"To not be being played in my own position and still finish top goal scorer for both seasons, I felt I deserved a better deal. But that was not the case and that didn't get offered to me which was really upsetting for myself as I certainly felt that I showed that I wanted to stay there and was a big part of the team."

Maguire started his career at Scottish side Aberdeen and caught the eye in his final season when he scored 12 goals in 44 games before joining Derby County in 2011.

He spent three season with Wednesday and finally moved on in the summer after playing 90 times for the club, scoring 18 times.

Maguire is yet to score for the Millers in his opening 10 games but will be expecting to get off the mark soon.

Rotherham United currently sit in 20th position in the Sky Bet Championship, having amassed eight points from nine league games so far this season.
