Reading manager Jaap Stam is interested in out-of-favour Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori as the Royals look to strengthen their promotion contention to the Premier League, reports the Daily Mail.
The centre-back moved to Merseyside in 2013 for a £7 million fee from Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon but the 23 -ear-old has struggled to find a place in the first-team since.
Ilori has spent loan spells with Granada, Bordeaux and most recently Aston Villa. His only appearance for Liverpool came in a FA Cup Third Round 2-2 draw at Exeter City 12 months ago.
Stam has remained a key admirer of the Portugal under-23 international, albeit being born in Hampstead in north London.
Reading currently sit third in the Championship table but have a game in-hand over second-placed Newcastle United, and could reduce the gap with the Magpies to three points with a win over Queens Park Rangers on Thursday night.
The Berkshire outfit travel to Old Trafford on Saturday to play Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup, in what will be Jaap Stam’s first time back at the club since he departed for Lazio.
