Paul McShane has been ruled out of Thursday’s game against QPR with a wrist injury, the Reading FC assistant manager Andries Ulderink has confirmed in a press conference.

The recently turned 31-year-old suffered the injury during the Boxing Day clash with Norwich City.

Jaap Stam confirmed that McShane has undergone a wrist operation which also saw him miss the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Stam admitted that it was a tough decision to tell McShane he had to have the op before the Manchester United game, however, in the long term this see’s the Irishman miss only one league game.

The Royals face QPR in front of the cameras this Thursday and they’ll be looking for Joey Van Den Berg or imminent new signing Tiago Ilori to come in for the captain.

With Reading currently sitting in third place they will be hoping that this will be one of few injury blows in the coming future.
