Leeds United have completed the signing of Manchester City winger Ian Poveda on a permanent deal until the summer of 2024, the club confirmed yesterday.

Poveda becomes the Whites' second addition of the window following the arrival of goalkeeper Elia Caprile earlier this week, with the 19-year-old now set to bolster Marcelo Bielsa's attacking unit in the second half of the Championship season.

The England youth international will now rival the likes of Jack Harrison, Pablo Hernandez and Helder Costa for a starting spot on Leeds' flank with the Elland Road outfit currently occupying one of the automatic promotion spots in the second tier.

Poveda arrives in South Yorkshire after only making one senior appearance for City, with this coming during their Carabao Cup campaign in 2019, but the attacker has regularly been involved with the senior set-up in addition to the club's academy sides.

Leeds' latest signing took to Instagram to share a video of him arriving at the club accompanied with the caption 'All Leeds Aren't We?!', and his former City team-mates Raheem Sterling and Benjamin Mendy then responded to this message.

The Verdict

Leeds supporters will be relieved by the fact their side has finally made an exciting addition this window, with Poveda now giving the Whites a much-needed boost ahead of their promotion bid in the second half of the campaign.

The fact City have decided to let the winger leave the club does not necessarily mean they do not value his qualities, but it was always going to be difficult for him to break into the Premier League champions' senior side with so much top competition.

These messages from Sterling and Mendy reflect how Poveda remains highly respected by some of City's star players, and it also suggests how the winger would have learned from these quality players during his time with the first team.

Leeds fans have every reason to feel excited following Poveda's arrival at the club, and the fact Bielsa would have been such a key influence in the move suggests that the former City youngster could now be allowed to thrive at Elland Road.
