After a blistering start to the season saw Wolves dreaming of a return to the Premier League, the midlands side have stuttered and stalled.

The arrival of Paul Lambert had seemed to steady the ship as Wolves looked to build on excellent wins over Aston Villa and Barnsley.

Considering the foray of talent and quality that Wolverhampton Wanderers possess, the heavy dip in form and slide down the table comes somewhat as a surprise.

A number of players, however, have failed to live up to their reputation and to their price-tag as they have struggled this season to have a positive impact for Wolves.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen has identified THREE players who have been flops for Wolves this season.....

George Saville

Although George Saville has now been at Wolverhampton Wanderers for three full seasons, more has come to be expected of the former Chelsea midfielder.

The 23-year-old midfielder has featured 14 times for Wolves in the Sky Bet Championship this season, however, only seven of these appearances were starts.

Following the departure of Kevin McDonald to Fulham, it was expected that George Saville would step up and demonstrate the talent and ability that he possesses.

However, partnered alongside Lee Evans in the defeat to Burton Albion, Saville's limited ability to break down a deep-lying defensive line was exposed which could prove to be an ominous sign for the young midfielder.

In what has been an increasingly difficult transitional season for Wolves, George Saville has failed to make an impression and he has ultimately proved to be a flop for Wolves this season.

Jón Daði Böðvarsson

After a career defining summer saw Jón Daði Böðvarsson play an integral part for Iceland in the 2016 European Championships, the arrival of the Kaiserslautern striker to Wolves was welcomed.

Having paid over £2.5 million for the 24-year-old striker, Böðvarsson was expected to be Wolves main goal threat this season.

There have been no questions about the Icelandic striker's work ethic and ability to bring others into play, however, despite featuring in all but two of Wolves' Skybet Championship games this season, Böðvarsson has a measly return of just two goals.

Since Böðvarsson's last goal against Birmingham City, twenty-five Skybet Championship games have passed which is an enormous concern not only for the Icelandic striker but also for Wolves.

Whether it's the system that Wolves utilises or the personnel surrounding the Icelandic striker, up until this point, he has been one of the biggest flops of the season so far for Wolves.

Silvio

In an action-packed summer transfer window, the arrival of Portuguese full-back Silvio from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid appeared to be a major coup for Wolves.

The vastly experienced defender had spent the previous season on loan at Portuguese side S.L Benfica who went on to win the Liga NOS title.

With experience in the Championship and the ability to play both as a left back and a right back, it was anticipated that Silvio would provide genuine competition to Matt Doherty and Conor Coady.

However, the 29-year-old defender has only made four full appearances for Wolves this season, of which, only two were in the Skybet Championship.

Although the reasons behind Silvio being a flop this season are out of his control as a succession of injuries and the arrival of Paul Lambert have both hindered his chances of breaking into Wolves' team, he has still proved to be a flop for Wolves considering the reputation and resume that he has prior to joining the Championship side.
