Sheffield Wednesday further cemented their place in the play-off zone today after an impressive 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest.

The Owls travelled to the City Ground to play Gary Brazil's out of sorts Nottingham Forest side and secured a narrow victory to close the gap on fifth placed Leeds.

Nottingham Forest had a golden early chance to take the lead when Ross McCormack's penalty was saved by Keiren Westwood.

The Irish goalkeeper only received a yellow card for tripping Ben Brereton in the box.

And Forest's afternoon got worse when Almen Abdi handed the visitors the lead before the half hour mark.

Fernando Forestieri doubled Wednesday's advantage early in the second half but they were pegged back by Ben Osborn's goal.

However, that only ended up being a consolation as Carlos Carvalhal's team saw out the victory.

With Norwich dropping points, Sheffield Wednesday extended their lead to 7 points above seventh.
