According to The Sunderland Echo, Ipswich Town defender Adam Webster is reportedly on the radar of Premier League outfit Sunderland.

Sunderland are apparently preparing for life without Lamine Kone, in case their star defender makes a big money move to West Ham United in the January window.

Sunderland’s Assistant Manager went to watch Adam Webster in action last weekend and the Black Cats are supposedly keen on what they’ve seen.

The 21-year-old is highly rated by his manager Mick McCarthy, who has previously said that he will play in the Premier League soon, whether that’s for Ipswich or elsewhere.

After completing a £750,000 switch from Portsmouth, which saw defender Matt Clarke go the other way, Webster has featured in 18 matches for the Tractor Boys, scoring once in that time.

The centre half is praised for his ability to use both feet, his pace and his confidence in bringing the ball out of defence.

Any Sunderland business hinges on a player leaving first due to financial restrictions.

Ipswich fans – would you be disappointed to see Webster leave? How much is he worth? Can you keep him if Sunderland come calling? Let us know in the comments below…
