Brentford boss Thomas Frank has insisted that his side will give catching Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion a shot in the coming two games, with the Bees extending their winning run to eight games last night.

Frank’s side have been putting pressure on the Championship’s top-two since the restart and last night’s win over Preston North End was their eighth in a row.

It has moved to Bees within a single point of West Brom in second, whilst league-leaders, Leeds, are only three points away, albeit with a game in hand.

The pressure is, undoubtedly, on the top two now and on the back of Ollie Watkins’ match-winning performance last night, Frank had the following message.

As quoted by West London Sport, he said: “We’re in the play-offs (at least). That’s a fact. So why not give it a go for direct promotion?

“Two games to go and we’re one point off West Brom. We’re on a high.

“The only thing we can do is focus on the next game.

“I’m looking at Stoke and seeing if we can win nine in a row, which would be even more remarkable than eight.

“Give it a shot. But we can only give it a shot if we win on Saturday.”

This afternoon, Leeds take on Barnsley at Elland Road, which will be a game catching the eye at Brentford.

A defeat for Leeds would leave the Bees with a chance to crash into the top-two at the weekend, regardless of what West Brom’s result is.

The Verdict

Things are so tight in the Championship, which is the opposite of what Leeds and West Brom want right now.

Frank’s side have given themselves an unbelievable chance of breaking into the top-two on the back of this eight-match winning run and nobody looks like they will stop them going to 10/10.

If they do that, they will expect to be in the top-two, with the pressure Leeds and West Brom are under potentially leading to a slip up.
