Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has revealed that the club's mixed form on home soil is leaving him under pressure, despite the Millers' impressive record on the road.

So far this season, Rotherham have won just twice one home soil, and have suffered back to back defeats at The New York Stadium at the hands of Oxford and Wycombe, results which have been interspersed by away wins at Blackpool and league leaders Ipswich.

Speaking after that latest home defeat against Wycombe, Warne admitted the desire to impress in front of Rotherham's own fans is getting to him, as he told The Star: “The poor home form has put an extra layer of pressure on me.

“I don't think we are letting it affect the lads, we might have to do something different or a implement few little ideas we will have."

Reflecting on the contrast in their recent form home and away, Warne continued: “I feel sorry for the fans, our away performances have been excellent. Two hundred and fifty fans kindly went to Ipswich in the week and saw us play at our absolute best and we follow it up in front of eight-and-a-bit thousand and they don't get to see it.

“For that, I apologise.”

That mixed form in recent weeks means that Rotherham are currently 11th in League One, four points adrift of the play-offs.

The Millers are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Gillingham, before FA Cup and EFL Trophy ties away at Maidenhead and Lincoln respectively, with their next home game coming against Accrington in the league on the 16th November.

The Verdict

This is a very honest admission from Warne.

Rotherham didn't have quite the expectation on them this year that other sides dropping out of the Championship have had, but this does seem to suggest that he feels that his side have the potential to push all the way this season, if they can get things right on home soil.

That they are stronger away from home this season is perhaps somewhat surprising, given only 11 of their 40 league points in the Championship last season came on the road, amounting to just a single win.

That, however, should at least give the Millers confidence that the potential to turn their form around at home is there, meaning there is still more than enough time in the season to push for an immediate return to the second tier.
