Former England international Paul Robinson has admitted that West Bromwich Albion's chances of achieving automatic promotion at the end of the season have been bolstered by the news that Grady Diangana is set to stay.

Despite speculation linking the winger with a move back to his parent club West Ham United, the Baggies confirmed on Friday that he will remain at the Hawthorns until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Since joining West Brom last summer on loan from the Hammers, Diangana has emerged as a key player for the club in recent months as he has been able to take the Championship by storm.

As well as scoring five goals for the Baggies, the 21-year-old has also provided six assists in 21 league appearances which has helped his side climb up to the top of second-tier standings.

Although Diangana is set to miss several weeks of action due to a hamstring injury which he suffered in the club's defeat to Stoke City last week, he may end up playing a pivotal role in West Brom's push for promotion when he returns to full fitness.

Speaking to Football Insider about the update on the winger's immediate future, Robinson said: "I'd say it's like a new signing (for West Brom).

"The confirmation of him staying, in their league position, is a massive boost to them.

"He's been one of their best players this season, and to have him until the end of the season in that promotion push is probably key."

The Verdict

When you consider just how impressive Diangana has been in the Championship during the current campaign, West Brom will be delighted with the news that he is set to stay at the club.

An integral part of the Baggies' set-up, the winger has illustrated a fantastic understanding with the likes of Matheus Pereira and Matt Phillips which has resulted in the Baggies being able to provide their supporters with some superb attacking displays.

If he is able to replicate the performance levels that he illustrated earlier this season upon his return from injury, there is no reason why Diangana cannot inspire West Brom to promotion.

Providing that the Baggies do secure a return to the top-flight in May, they may find it beneficial to sign Diangana on a permanent deal from West Ham as he unquestionably possesses all the ingredients needed to thrive at Premier League level in the future.
