Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert insists that he will not be able to spend any money this summer despite the club making over £2m from sell-on clauses for former players already.

The East Anglian Daily Times has revealed that Tyrone Mings' big-money move to Aston Villa will net the Tractor Boys up to £1.85m, whilst they've also bagged £800,000 after Matt Clarke left Portsmouth for Brighton.

As well as that, the report states the recently relegated side have similar clauses in deals for Kieffer Moore and Adam Webster who could also be on the move this summer, with Bristol City demanding a huge £30m for the latter.

Yet, despite all that, Lambert told the same paper that he is fully aware his budget won't change no matter what is brought in - and revealed he is perfectly happy with that.

"I don't get the idea that people think there's money - where's the money coming from. We can't buy anybody, that's the fact of it, but that's no problem because we have some really good young players.

"They may need a little bit of help but we can't go and buy anybody, regardless of what anyone thinks about deals done before my time and the knock-on of money coming in."

The Verdict

You can understand why Ipswich fans would have hoped that these funds would be given to Lambert but it's not the case.

That's a consequence of relegation and the club have clearly been planning for life in the third tier and know what needs to be done.

Lambert also deserves huge credit for his comments here as there's no moaning about a lack of resources, instead he is positive about the team and the chances they have next season.

Such an attitude is sure to lift the players and it will give them added belief that they can have a successful year.
