Having won 4 out of their last 6 league games, Paul Cook will be satisfied with Pompey's recent turnaround in Sky Bet League Two.

The Blues find themselves 4th in the league standings, just 5 points behind third placed Doncaster Rovers who take up the final automatic promotion spot.

However, for some of the Fratton Park faithful, the play-offs just isn't good enough, especially with the signings that the former Chesterfield boss made in pre-season.

With the January transfer window looming, now is the perfect time for Cook to get rid of the deadwood, whose stuttering form and lacklustre performances have led to Pompey's underachieving league position, and bring in fresh, new talent who will ignite a late push for automatic promotion to League One.

With that being said, FLW writer George Harbey here identifies TWO transfers that Portsmouth cannot afford to miss out on in January...

Jay Simpson

Although Leyton Orient are enduring a dismal time of late, Jay Simpson is perhaps their shining light.

The former Arsenal forward netted 25 times in all competitions for the O's last term.

The 28-year-old is capable of scoring prolifically in the fourth tier, and is a much needed signing for the Blues.

Jay O'Shea

Another club who are on the descent is Chesterfield, who find themselves 23rd in League One, two points adrift of safety.

However, Jay O'Shea, who has endured nearly 4 years at the Proact Stadium, was recently nominated for League One's Player of the Month for November, despite the Spireites' downfall.

The 28-year old has worked closely with Cook, achieving promotion from League Two in 2014 with Chesterfield, and has netted 36 times in 166 goals for the Derbyshire club.

A sleeping giant like Pompey, especially with Cook at the helm, could undoubtedly lure the Irishman to Fratton.

So... What do you think Pompey fans? Should Paul Cook sign these two players? Who else would you like to see arrive at Fratton Park in January? Leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below!
