Huddersfield Town continue to surprise many as their bid for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship really kicks into gear.

David Wagner’s side picked up a fifth consecutive victory on Tuesday night, as they defeated promotion rivals Reading 1-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The result leaves the Terriers just four-points behind Brighton and Hove Albion and five behind leaders Newcastle United, as Huddersfield begin to disturb the two-horse race at the top of the Championship table.

After an impressive start to the season, many believed Wagner’s side would fall away, as the games came around quickly.

A winless November led to many believing the wheels had began to come off the Huddersfield wagon, but a recent surge has silenced the doubters.

One player who has made a difference to Huddersfield continuing their good form is Izzy Brown, who joined the club on-loan from Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Brown had spent the first-half of the season with Rotherham United, but opted to move across Yorkshire last month for a shot at promotion.

The attacking midfielder joined the club when they were eight-points behind Brighton a gap that has now been halved, and more importantly helped to install as 13-point bridge between Huddersfield and seventh placed Norwich City.

Brown has scored four goals for Wagner’s side who have only lost once since his arrival, a defeat to fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday.

Recently Town have picked up important victories over Brighton and Leeds United, both games where Brown put in man-of-the-match performances.

Huddersfield have more vital games coming up, with a fixture against Newcastle fast approaching, where victory for Wagner’s side would put them right in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Town will have to play well between now and the end of the season to dislodge Newcastle or Brighton, who have both been far more consistent than the Yorkshire side over the course of the season.

There are also no guarantees that Huddersfield will gain promotion from the Play-Offs, with all the other contenders showing promising signs recently.

Wagner’s side have done better than most expected this season, and were doing well before Brown joined the club in January, but there is no doubting that he has given Huddersfield an extra dimension heading into the second-half of the Championship season.

If Brown can continue his recent performances, that have turned him into a fan favourite, Huddersfield may well find themselves back in the top-flight for the first time since 1972.
