Masterminded by Lee Johnson, the Robins endured a fine start to the season, sitting in the Play-Off places before their season capitulated, but where has it all gone wrong for City?

After 14 games, Bristol City were sitting pretty in the Play-Offs and only five points away from the automatic promotion places on 23 points and Bristol City fans began to dream about what could be this season.

However, the dreams were short lived, since after 26 games, the Robins are now just three points above the drop zone on 27 points and now a further 27 points away from the automatic promotion places.

A run of just 1 win, 1 draw and a whopping 10 defeats in their last 12 matches is to blame for their sudden drop down the table, but after their fine start to the season, why has their form taken such a serious hit?

The main reason behind Bristol City's dire form is their defensive ineptitudes.

In the Robins last five games, they have conceded at least two goals, conceding three on as many occasions, which included throwing a 2-0 lead away against Reading.

If City carry on to concede two goals per game, they will be in the bottom three come the end of the season because they don't score enough goals to cancel them out.

Yes, they have Tammy Abraham up front who has netted 15 goals this season, but he cant do it all on his own; he's a great striker, but single-handedly, he won't be able to keep City up.

Behind Tammy Abraham, the next highest goal scorer is Lee Tomlin who has four goals, followed by a few players who have two or three goals.

If City don't address their defensive frailties and don't increase the amount of goals they score, then they are going to carry on sinking down the table.

The only comfort City have found in a while is the FA Cup.

The Robins downed Fleetwood on Tuesday in a third round replay to set up a tasty fourth round tie away to Premier League Burnley.

The cup will offer some solace to the Robins but there is no doubt that their main focus needs to be the league. If they focus all their efforts on the cup, then they may find themselves playing League One football next season.
