Newcastle United's promotion hopes suffered a slight setback today as it was announced that Dwight Gayle would miss the next month through injury.

This came as a blow as he picked up the injury in his first game back from his previous spell on the sidelines.

Despite his injury woes, Dwight Gayle has still racked up 20 league goals this season and he tops the goal-scoring charts in the second tier.

The former Crystal Palace marksman has been an inspired piece of business by Newcastle United and he has demonstrated what the Eagles are missing out on with his prolific eye for goal and pace to trouble Championship defences.

In his absence, Newcastle have to adopt a slightly different approach to their attacks.

But this doesn't mean that their season will derail.

They have a more than capable deputy in Aleksandar Mitrovic, who once again proved his worth by causing the Aston Villa defence all sorts of problems when he entered the field of play on Monday night.

The hot-headed Serb is susceptible to the odd crazy moment but if you look at his footballing ability in isolation, there is no doubting his potential.

Still just 22-years-old, Mitrovic is a physical player who will win aerial duels and hold the ball up well.

Unlike Gayle, he won't be running the channels and beating defenders for pace but he offers a different way of getting up the pitch.

With the likes of Matt Ritchie, Yoan Gouffran and Christian Atsu able to deliver quality crosses into the box, Mitrovic should be a goal threat too.

Newcastle are well positioned to bounce straight back to the Premier League and they will continue to pick up wins in the absence of Dwight Gayle because of their talented second choice striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic.
