Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith made his full debut for the first-team in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, a game in which the youngster says he fulfilled a ‘boyhood dream’.

Smith replaced Vladimir Stojkovic in the starting line-up and the 22-year-old produced an assured performance between the posts, despite Forest’s defeat to an in-form Owls outfit.

Speaking to the club’s official website following the game, Smith was in determined mood as he now bids to keep the gloves for next weekend’s huge game with Wigan Athletic.

The young custodian said: “I want to make sure that I’m composed and assured but the biggest thing is that we retain our Championship status.

“It’s a boyhood dream to play for this club and I am delighted to playing for the first-team.”

Smith does concede that the hard work starts now and that he will not be resting on any laurels for the remainder of the campaign.

He continued: “There is pressure to perform. It’s not like I can just come, have a good time and be pleased with playing a few games, we need to win matches and now.

“It’s a great compliment when people say that I have played well but it doesn’t come as a great surprise to myself. I want to keep playing well and improving every time I play.

“Forest have been fantastic as a football club for my development and I want to pay them back now.”
