Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign Jack Colback and Lyle Taylor on free transfers, according to reputable journalist Alan Nixon.

Both players are now free agents, after Colback was released by Newcastle United at the end of last month and Taylor left Charlton Athletic upon the expiry of his contract.

Colback is no stranger to the Forest faithful - the 30-year-old made 55 appearances for the Reds during a one-and-a-half year loan spell at the City Ground.

Can you name the stadiums of these 40 EFL clubs?

The experienced midfielder was a solid player for the Reds, and often captained the side on more than one occasion under Aitor Karanka.

Taylor has scored against Forest on two occasions this season, with the 30-year-old scoring 11 goals in 22 games for Charlton Athletic this term.

The forward netted 25 goals as Charlton won promotion from League One in 2018/19, but is now on the lookout for a new club after controversially leaving Charlton at the end of his contract.

According to Nixon, talks are "active" with both Colback and Taylor, as is the Ben Watson contract situation, with the midfielder's deal set to run out at the end of the season.

Forest drew 2-2 with Swansea City last night to move them five points clear of seventh, with only two games remaining this term.

The Verdict

Taylor and Colback would be excellent signings for Forest on free transfers.

Colback was excellent during his time on loan at the City Ground and I was surprised that they didn't sign him permanently in the summer. He'd be a perfect long-term replacement for Ben Watson.

Taylor's goalscoring record in the Championship is very impressive, too, and after a remarkable season in the second tier, he could add some real competition for Lewis Grabban up top.
