For most of the season it has has been a campaign to forget so far for Nottingham Forest fans after a disappointing time on and off the field.

But there has been one huge positive for Forest fans and that has been the talent coming out of the Nigel Doughty Academy.

The likes of Ben Osborn, Matty Cash, Joe Worrall and now Ben Brereton are the latest players to start to make a huge impact in the first team set up under the leadership of Gary Brazil.

The Reds have seen the likes of academy stars Oliver Burke and Patrick Bamford leave the club for big money in recent years with the East Midlands club one of the best in the country at developing young players.

It will be interesting to see who can be the next player to come out of the academy and make it with the Reds having a number of players who could be the next big thing in English football.

FLW writer Harry Webster takes a look at two emerging young stars that Nottingham Forest fans should get excited about...

Virgil Gomis

The youngster has scored 18 goals in 24 matches for the youth team this season and is starting to making himself known at the City Ground.

The striker possesses huge amounts of pace, is an exceptional finisher and is excellent on the ball and it may only be a matter of time before he gets a chance in the first team set up if he continues his fine form.

Gomis has already seen the likes of Cash, Worrall and Brereton make an impact with the first team and he will be hoping he can be the next youngster to make his mark.

Ben Brereton

In just four appearances for the club, Brereton has already scored twice for the East Midlands club.

The 17-year-old has the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United monitoring his progress after his stunning last minute winner against Aston Villa a couple of weeks ago.

Brereton also scored at Fulham on Tuesday night with an outstanding header and if he continues this form he could quickly establish himself as a key player for the Reds.
