Nottingham Forest are closing in on the signing of the former Bolton Wanderers captain, Matt Mills, according to the Nottingham Post.

Mills, who was Dougie Freedman's skipper when he was manager of the Trotters will sign for the Reds once the final details of the proposed contract are ironed-out.

The former Leicester City central defender would represent something of a coup for the Reds, with the club working under strict FFP regulations which limits them to offering a weekly wage of just £10,00 per week.

It would appear however that Mills' relationship with the current Forest boss has persuaded him to make the move to the City Ground.

This news emerges after it was announced yesterday that ex-Derby County forward Jamie Ward had undergone a medical at Forest ahead of a proposed move along Brian Clough Way.

It is now thought that Ward has gone away on holiday for a week but will put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract upon his return.

The duo of signings is a bold statement from Forest and the fact that they look to be closing in on two proven Championship players can only be a positive sign ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
