Rotherham United goalkeeper Lee Camp has called upon Rangers to appoint the unemployed Billy Davies as their new manager, stating that the Scotsman would be a ‘perfect fit’ for the Glaswegian giants.

Camp played under the fiery boss during his time at both Derby County and Nottingham Forest, with the 32-year-old a firm admirer of Davies’ managerial credentials.

Davies hasn’t worked in management since departing the City Ground for a second time back in 2014 but Camp believes that the former Rangers player is an underrated gaffer, who is simply desperate to win.

Speaking exclusively to the Scottish Sun, the Millers’ stopper publicly backed his former manager for the Ibrox position.

He said: “Look at his record, it’s exceptional. He took Derby up to the Premier League through the play-offs in his first season, then walked into Forest and saved them from relegation.

“Then there were two consistent years being in the play-offs at Forest. There’s a myth about Billy though, but this perception isn’t the Billy I know or see. The people who portray him that way clearly don’t know him.”

During the end of his second tenure at Nottingham Forest, Davies seemed to alienate local media with many people labelling him a troublemaker of sorts.

Camp, however, insists that isn’t the case, continuing: “Billy is a winner and sometimes winners make tough decisions and they sometimes say things that people don’t want to hear.

“Billy will treat you as an adult, he’ll trust you and he’ll give you respect. But he expects a certain level and a certain standard on how you live your life away from the club too.”

Davies has been heavily linked with the managerial position at Rangers, who are searching for a new manager following the resignation of Mark Warburton on Friday evening and Camp thinks the club should look no further than Davies.

He said: “The Rangers squad is very young and it needs an experienced manager who can develop those young players and bring in the right experience around them.

“Forest and Derby aren’t on the same level of Rangers or Celtic but at both clubs the expectation is still to win given their history.

“He would bring everything to Rangers to take them towards the next level.”
