As per the Daily Mail, Millwall are set to place both their playing squad and management team members on furlough leave, as the current global crisis continues.

In the last few days, we've seen teams up and down the country take the decision to furlough staff members to save money, whilst some clubs have seen players take wage cuts and deferrals to help those on lesser income through the period.

The Lions had already placed non-playing staff on the furlough scheme last week, but will now look to place the players and members of the coaching staff on it, too, as they look to help their finances through this current period.

Millwall are not one of the league's biggest spenders by any stretch of the imagination but are a well-run club that operates within its means.

However, with the sheer drop in income from matchday gates and all that comes with a fixture on a Saturday, they've felt the need to take this next step to help preserve their current state.

The Verdict

Millwall are yet to officially confirm this news to those it will impact but it seems as though they are looking to put another swathe on the scheme before too long.

It's been a tough period for clubs up and down the country and though the very biggest names in the game on these shores will be able to cover things, those lower down will need to take similar action to the Lions.
