Watford opened their campaign with a rampant 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers, with new captain Troy Deeney getting a place on the score sheet.

Individual errors from Bolton cost them as early in the first minute, when new signing Dean Moxey misplaced a back pass, allowing Troy Deeney through on goal but failing to hit the target for the Hornets. This set the tone for the game as Watford sent a ball forward, escaping the attention of Matt Mills and Tim ream, and Troy Deeney chipping the stranded Andy Lonergan to put Watford one up. Matej Vydra scored on his return to Vicarage Road just before half time to put Watford in control of the game. Bolton failed to make an impact on the Watford goal in the first half, resulting in being booed off at half time by the travelling Trotters.

The start of the second half saw Dougie Freedman replace an unimpressive Darren Pratley for Liam Feeney, in an attempt to try and get his side back in the game. However, they were almost three down after 30 seconds as Paredes saw his shot canon off the cross bar. Ironic cheers from the visiting fans after they won a corner from a deflected shot showed how frustrated they were with their sides performance.

Almen Abdi and Matej Vydra saw their shots fly just wide of Lonergan's goal, before an injury to Dean Moxey saw him replaced by Dorian Dervite on the hour mark, as debutant swapped for another debutant.

Jermaine Beckford replaced Neil Danns in the 68th minute and should have scored with his first touch of the ball, but he couldn't bring Chung-Yong's pass under control and the chance was gone. The former Leeds United forward was proving to be Bolton's most likely goalscorer as the game approached the final 10 minutes, but his shooting was below-par. Having wriggled away from two Watford defenders and with the goal at his mercy, Beckford's shot struck the side netting - much to the dismay of the travelling supporters behind the goal.

To make matters worse for the Trotters, Watford had the ball in the net just a minute later, with Forestieri adding a third to the scoreline with his first touch of the game after coming on just minutes before.

The full-time whistle led to cheers and singing in the Watford stands, but a chorus of boos from the Bolton faithful as they took to social media sites to show their negative views on manager Dougie Freedman and the players. However, Watford fans are filled with belief and joy that they could yet again claim a play-off spot, or even automatic promotion following their rampant win over the Wanderers.

Watford now face a trip to recently relegated Norwich City next weekend, whereas Bolton host Nottingham Forest at their newly named Macron Stadium.
