QPR manager Mark Warburton says that holding midfielders Luke Amos and Geoff Cameron were substituted as a precaution during his side’s 3-1 defeat at home to Swansea City on Wednesday night.

Amos was withdrawn just half an hour into the match at Loftus Road, while Cameron did not return for the second 45 minutes after making it to half time in the game.

Speaking to West London Sport about Amos following the defeat, Warburton was hopeful the damage will not be serious, as he revealed: “We’ll see how he is. We’ll assess him. He felt some tightening, so we’ll be careful.

“I hope very much (he’ll be OK). We’ll assess him in the morning and see how he is.”

It was a similar story with Cameron, as the QPR manager added: “It was just a bit of tightening and again we’ve got to be careful. It’s early in the season and the boys are just getting accustomed to the physical demands.

“Playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday presents demands for the players. I’d rather be cautious than go on 10 minutes too long.”

Bersant Celina’s effort had put Swansea 1-0 up at the break on Wednesday night, with the on-loan Jordan Hugill equalising for the hosts midway through the second half, only for a Borja Baston penalty and Sam Surridge’s first goal for Swansea to seal the three points for the Wales-based side late in the second half.

Rangers now sit 19th in the table with four points from as many games this season, and are next in action when they host Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

I think this was probably the right move from Warburton.

At this stage of the season, there is still plenty of football left to be played in the campaign, so you feel it is better to make sure that he will have as many players as possible available in the long term.

With Josh Scowen and Ilias Chair the two to replace the pair on Wednesday night, you also feel that this was a reasonable approach for Warburton to take, given both of those are players that present a viable option at this level.

It is also worth considering that, with a game against Wigan – who have lost four on the bounce in all competitions – to come on Saturday, you are going to want your preferred options available for such a meeting, which could be a good opportunity to put some important points on the board.
