Sunderland made it three league wins in a row as they narrowly beat MK Dons by a goal to nil on Saturday afternoon.

Lynden Gooch's stunning strike from distance proved to be the difference between the two sides at Stadium MK, as Phil Parkinson's side continue their fine run of form.

The Black Cats are unbeaten in their last seven games in League One, and will be hoping that they can continue to build on this recent upturn in form.

Sunderland narrowly missed out on promotion last term, after they were beaten by Charlton Athletic in the League One play-off final at Wembley.

They started the 2019/20 season slowly, and supporters would have been rightly concerned by performances heading into the New Year.

But they've shown remarkable improvement which has seen them move into the play-off positions, which will be pleasing to see for everyone associated with the club.

The goal was Gooch's eighth of the season so far, and more impressively, was his fourth goal in his last five league games for the Black Cats.

Sunderland are next in action on Friday evening when they host Doncaster Rovers at the Stadium of Light, as they look to make it games unbeaten in their quest to win promotion into the Championship.

The Verdict:

What a win this could prove to be for Phil Parkinson's side.

Whatever he has changed in recent weeks seems to be working, and I think they'll be up their challenging for automatic promotion this season.

They're hitting form at the ideal time, and Gooch has been key to that. If he can continue to put in performances like this, then Sunderland could well find themselves in the Championship by the start of next season.
