Barnsley strengthened their hopes of reaching the playoffs with an impressive 3-2 victory at Oakwell against Leeds United on Saturday.

Paul Heckingbottom's side went into the fixture in poor form with defeats to Blackpool, in their FA Cup replay, and Fulham last weekend at Craven Cottage.

Leeds took the lead inside the first twenty minutes when star man Chris Wood got on the end of a Pablo Hernandez cross.

The Tykes drew level just before the break when Welshman Tom Bradshaw headed past Rob Green, and it didn't take long for Barnsley to get their second when loanee Ryan Kent smashed it home on the turn in the 48th minute.

Ultimately the goal of the game came seven minutes later, much to Leeds United's disappointment, as midfielder and skipper Conor Hourihane stunned the away fans with a free-kick to give the hosts a 3-1 lead.

Garry Monk was looking for an emphatic response from his team to gain something out of the game, and did so when the visitors were awarded a penalty by referee Mike Dean which Chris Wood dispatched to nick one back.

The result leaves Barnsley 7th in the Championship and five points adrift of the top six.
