Leeds United have have tabled a bid for talented Uruguayan forward Felipe Avenatti, according to Talksport.

The Ternana striker has been the subject of a lot of transfer speculation this summer, having scored 11 goals in the second tier of Italian football.

Avenatti looked set to join Cagliari this summer but a break down in talks and interest from abroad have forced the player to look elsewhere to further his career.

English football is now set for the tall forward, with both Watford and Aston Villa looking to challenge Leeds to beat his signature.

Leeds are now looking first to secure the Uruguayan's signature after making initial contact with the Italian club and with the club likely to offload the trio of forwards Billy Sharp, Nicky Ajose and Steve Morison.

All three of the strikers for sale have failed to rather settle or provide goals at Elland Road and latest head coach Uwe Rosler now looks set to prefer new acquisitions Chris Wood and Lee Erwin.

Any bid for Avenatti will have to break the bank for Leeds United, with a recorded £5 million price tag currently hovering over his head. Leeds have already spent big this summer on a forward with Chris Wood joining the club from Leicester for £3 million fee.

The 22-year old stands at an impressive 6ft 5 and is seen to be a deadly aerial threat that also possesses strength and a good finishing ability.

The question is, if Leeds United are looking for another tall striker, how could that benefit Leeds United? With Chris Wood already providing them traits and Rosler looking for pace instead, would the money be best spent on a more needed acquisition?
