Leeds United are set to be without young defender Leif Davis for a short spell of time, after the defender underwent knee surgery according to the Yorkshire Evening Post's Graham Smyth.

Davis has made five appearances this season for Marcelo Bielsa's side, and has struggled for game time with the senior squad due to a number of players being ahead of him in the pecking order at Elland Road.

The likes of Barry Douglas, Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski are all likely to be ahead of Davis in Marcelo Bielsa's plans, and you have to feel as though the youngster could have benefitted from a loan spell for the remainder of the season.

But after this recent injury update, it means that Davis won't be heading anywhere anytime soon, and he'll be hoping he can make a swift return to action.

The 20-year-old broke through to the Leeds first team last season, as he made his debut in their stunning 3-2 win over Aston Villa in December 2018.

Leeds are currently sat second in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can break out of a poor run of form at the earliest of opportunities.

Marcelo Bielsa's side are next in action on 28th January when they host play-off chasing Millwall in what could potentially be a tricky test for the Yorkshire-based side.

The Verdict:

This hasn't come at an ideal time.

Davis might not be near the starting XI at the moment, but you have to feel he would be near the first team plans with Marcelo Bielsa if a few injuries were to occur.

The likes of Barry Douglas have struggled previously with injuries, and it'll be interesting to see whether he can stay injury-free for the remainder of this year's campaign.

I would be stunned if the Whites didn't sign anymore players in this month's transfer window though, as they could definitely benefit from having additional depth for the remainder of the season, in their quest to win promotion into the Premier League.
