Leeds United boss Garry Monk sees the EFL Cup tie against Championship title-chasers Norwich City as the ideal occasion for the Yorkshire side to continue their run of form, he told The Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Canaries are considered favourites heading into the cup-tie at Elland Road and Monk is boldly tipping them to beat Newcastle to the Championship title this term, putting that down to the fact they managed to keep hold of key players following their relegation from the Premier League last term.

“For me, they’re my favourite team to win the league this year. They have to be favourites."

“I know Newcastle are up there as well but Norwich kept a lot of the squad that came down from the Premier League. They’ve added good players in the summer too so it’s going to be interesting and it’ll be a good gauge for us to test ourselves and see how far we’ve come.”

Norwich slipped to fourth at the weekend following their 1-0 defeat to Preston, whilst Leeds secured a victory over Wolves by the same scoreline- the side's fourth victory in a row at Elland Road, a run Monk is keen to keep going in the EFL Cup this week.

“We’re five games unbeaten at home and we want to keep that going. Even though it’s a cup game we need to have the same mentality."

“It’s a chance to progress and we’ve already done well in the cup. Keeping momentum and keeping winning – it’s all you want to do.”

Leeds have already defeated Luton Town, Fleetwood Town and Blackburn Rovers but Norwich have taken a top-flight scalp from Everton this term and will provide a stern test, although they slipped-up at the weekend with a 1-0 defeat to Preston North End.

The Canaries currently sit 4th in the Championship, seven points and six positions ahead of Leeds, with Alex Neil's side unbeaten in five matches against Leeds- last being defeated in a League One fixture back in October 2009.
