Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has stated that he 'didn't enjoy that at all' after the Robins faltered to a point at home to Middlesbrough.

Johnson's side fought their way back into the game having fallen behind midway through the second-half. Tommy Rowe's equaliser with just under ten minutes left, meant that they were able to pick up a fourth home point of the season.

The result meant that the Robins stayed within the play-off positions ahead of the first international break of the season.

In just under two weeks time, Bristol City face Stoke away from home. Johnson will fancy his side's chances as the Potters currently sit bottom of the Championship with just one point.

Speaking to the Bristol Post, he said: "I didn’t enjoy that at all from a coach’s point of view, I thought it was too spread, distances were too big. I thought we dropped slightly too deep, we didn’t trust the line.

"First half, attacking play was fantastic, some great attacking play, should’ve come in at half time probably 3-1 maybe even 3-2 because they had a couple of chances but some very good chances we’ve had there and then at half time we tried to sort out the non-negotiables and there were a lot of young players playing today, slightly too many really in terms of not natural leaders and that was where we were winging it a bit in terms of communication.

"Not talent, not effort, not work rate but communication and we weren’t good enough at it and where they picked us open and had opportunities at goal was generally due to our average communication."

The Verdict

Bristol City will be hoping that Johnson's mood will improve during the international break after what was a lacklustre display for the Robins' standards.

Middlesbrough were organised, and exploited a number of problems that in the long-run may help the Robins as Johnson can see what his side needs to improve.

The international break gives them a chance to regroup and go again when they take on lowly Stoke in just under two weeks' time.
