York City have been relegated from the Football League after a 3-0 defeat to promotion-chasing Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium.

After earning a stay of execution in midweek following a phenomenal 3-1 victory over Portsmouth, Accrington turned out to be just too good for the Minstermen. Tarique Fosu-Henry opened the scoring before the excellent Josh Windass scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season in the second half, meaning that York will be joining Dagenham & Redbridge in the National League next season.

Northampton Town broke another record on Saturday in what is turning out to be a simply sensational season. They are now 22 league games unbeaten, a club record. Their latest result was a 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

The Glovers, who dropped to 20th following this point, took a surprise lead as Harry Cornick headed in Liam Shepherd's deflected attempt on goal. Nicky Adams equalised for the Cobblers after 35 minutes.

The anomaly in the race for promotion came at Home Park as Plymouth Argyle, who sat fourth before kick off, suffered a shock defeat to bottom club Dagenham & Redbridge. Clevid Dikamona headed the opener, before Matty Cash scored from 25-yards. The Daggers' second header of the game came from Christian Doidge, and then Peter Hartley and Graham Carey's second half goals set up a tight finish, but Argyle couldn't come back for a point.

And as Derek Adams's men fell further away from the automatic zone, it was Bristol Rovers who took their spot after a 3-1 victory over Exeter City. Billy Bodin's tenth of the season put the Pirates ahead, before Lee Brown's scored an impressive free-kick. Jake Taylor got a goal back for the Devon side just after the break, but Matty Taylor restored the two goal interval.

Oxford United kept up the pressure on second place Stanley with a routine victory over Hartlepool United. Star man Kemar Roofe netted in the seventh minute, before Liam Sercombe secured the points in stoppage time. Oxford are inside the promotion zone by a single point, whilst Hartlepool stay 16th.

After Morecambe's 7-0 defeat to Cambridge United on the road in midweek, things could hardly get worse for their supporters this weekend. However, a dismal week was capped by a 4-1 defeat to Stevenage at the Globe Arena. 21-year old Chris Doyle put the Shrimps ahead in the 20th minute, but that was as good as it was going to get, as Dean Parrett (2), Ben Kennedy and an Alan Goodall own goal sent Stevenage up to 19th place.

Portsmouth got back to winning ways after two consecutive losses with a 2-1 win over play-off rivals Wycombe Wanderers; Gary Roberts and Conor Chaplin scoring as Pompey moved just one point away from confirming a play-off spot. Sido Jombati's free-kick was a consolation for Gareth Ainsworth's men, who are now out of play-off contention, being seven points behind seventh place.

Carlisle United and Mansfield Town have dropped out of the race for the top seven too, even though they both avoided defeat yesterday. The Blues beat Crawley 1-0 thanks to a Charlie Wyke header, but Town had a Gavin Tomlin shot cleared off the line. Crawley are now eight without a win and have lost their last six on the bounce. The Stags made the worse possible start after John Akinde put their opponents Barnet ahead. Emmanuel Dieseruvwe did equalise, but they couldn't improve that result and drop out of the play-off picture.

AFC Wimbledon are currently the side occupying that precious seventh place spot, and did no harm to their chances with a 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient. Lyle Taylor's 21st of the season was enough for the Dons, condemning Orient to a 15th defeat of the season, and 14th place.

This all means that Cambridge are the only team that can overtake AFC Wimbledon or Portsmouth, and they backed up their record Football League victory from Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over Notts County at Meadow Lane. Luke Berry and Ben Williamson scored the goals for United either side of Haydn Hollis's equaliser. Cambridge are five points behind Wimbledon and six behind Portsmouth, and the later two have a game in hand.

Newport County are now nine games without a win but did end Luton Town's three-game winning run by holding them to a 1-1 draw. Jack Marriott opened for the dominant Luton, before Souleymane Coulibaly equalised two minutes from time. The Exiles have confirmed their League Two status next season after York's defeat to Accrington.
