Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has his hands full this summer, putting together a squad capable of challenging for a top-six finish in the Championship next season.

Jack Rodwell is a player Mowbray needs to get a resolution for regarding his future, with the club's contract offer unsigned and showdown talks with the player's representatives scheduled, with the expiration of his current one year deal looming, as reported in the Lancashire Telegraph.

Rodwell has only been at Ewood Park for a year, but with game-time limited, the player is likely to want assurances before he puts pen to paper.

So should Blackburn be offering Rodwell a new deal?

We discuss........

Kealan Hughes

"He hasn't really proved himself so it is a surprise they are renewing his contract.

"He is probably on quite a bit in terms of wages too and it would probably be better if they used the funds elsewhere in the squad.

"However if the manager can get the best out of him Rovers will have a great player on their hands. It's a shame to see the trajectory Rodwell's career has taken, so hopefully he can get back to playing his best."

Gary Hutchinson

“Not for me, no, just let him go.

“I wasn’t impressed with Rodwell last season. I thought he settled, but he wasn’t outstanding.

“The question is how much he’d cost. I think there are better players out there for the sort of wages he might command.

“He cost himself dearly at Sunderland and he looked a lesser player for his troubles.”

George Brooks

"This is an interesting one.

"Rodwell is a decent player but if he’s not part of Tony Mowbray’s first-team plans for next season then I’m not sure why they’re offering him a new deal.

"They obviously think that he’s capable of putting being an important squad player but I really can’t seem him starting every week.

"It will be interesting to see whether he signs."

Jacob Potter

"He’s not done enough to warrant a new deal in my opinion.

"Rodwell is an experienced and versatile member of the Blackburn squad, but Rodwell is likely to be on relatively high wages, if his previous is anything to go by.

"I think Blackburn’s money would be better spent elsewhere over the summer.

"They could sign some younger players with the funds if they were to offload Rodwell and should look more towards the future."
