Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly reached an agreement with three first-team players over their futures at Hillsborough according to the Sheffield Star.

The report revealed that Keiren Westwood, Kieran Lee and Liam Palmer have all agreed to put pen to paper and sign new contracts with the Owls.

Lee has been offered a 12 month extension on his deal which was set to expire in the summer, whilst Palmer and Westwood are set to sign two-year deals.

Westwood has been impressive since coming into the side, after previously being frozen out by Jos Luhukay, but has hardly put a foot wrong since Steve Bruce brought him back into the starting XI.

It has been reported earlier this year by The Sun on Sunday (14th April, page 61), that Westwood was attracting interest from Huddersfield ahead of next season, although this latest report seems to end that transfer rumour.

But how big of a boost is this for the Owls ahead of next season?

We discuss....

Toby Wilding:

"This is good news for Sheffield Wednesday.

"All three of these are quality players who have played big parts in Wednesday's recent history, and you feel they could also play big parts in building on what was a promising end to the campaign under Steve Bruce for the Owls.

"Given the popularity of these three around Hillsborough, this will only serve to increase the mood and optimism amongst the club's fan base heading into next season.

"While Bruce does appear keen to put his own stamp on the squad int he summer transfer window, it would also be a smart move to keep players around who are established at the club and these three certainly fit that bill."

Jacob Potter:

"This could be some of their best signings of the transfer window.

"Westwood in particular will have been the one that Sheffield Wednesday supporters wanted the club to tie down to a new deal the most ahead of next season.

"All three of the players are key players for the Owls providing they can stay fit, and this latest update will be a huge boost for the Steve Bruce's side.

"With their futures secure, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Owls challenging for a top six finish in next year's league campaign, as they have that much of an impact on their side."

Tommy Joyce:

"Signing these three up to deals is clearly something Bruce has been pushing, which should tell a lot about why they're important.

"The trio are very experienced members of the squad and have been at the team for a long time - they will be useful to have around the changing room.

"Palmer and Westwood had important parts to play last season and Lee was out injured for much of it, so there is no point getting rid of these three to replace them with more fringe players.

"Overall, it's good business by Wednesday to get them under contract again, as long as their deals aren't too long or expensive."
