Having already parted ways with Toto Nsiala, Jordan Roberts and Anthony Georgiou this month, Ipswich Town could be about to wave goodbye to Aaron Drinan and Brett McGavin.

According to the East Anglian Daily Times, the Tractor Boys duo are reportedly training with Ayr United ahead of potential loan moves to the Scottish side.

The Honest Men, who are currently managed by ex-Ipswich boss George Burley, are looking to bolster their squad before the end of January in order to boost their chances of securing promotion to the Scottish Premiership later this year.

Having been granted a temporary exit from the club at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, Drinan recently returned to Portman Road following the expiry of his deal at GAIS.

Yet to make his debut for Ipswich's senior side, the forward will be hoping to play regular first-team football for Ayr if he does opt to join them.

McGavin, who is a product of the Tractor Boys' youth academy, has been limited to just a handful of appearances in recent months due to the presence of Cole Skuse and Flynn Downes.

Given that automatic promotion is on the agenda for Ipswich this season, manager Paul Lambert cannot currently guarantee the likes of McGavin and Drinan game time in League One.

The Verdict

This could prove to be a wise decision by Lambert as allowing McGavin and Drinan to leave on a temporary basis could help them make significant strides in terms of their development.

Providing that Burley hands this duo the opportunity to express themselves for Ayr, their loan spells in Scotland may turn to be successful.

If McGavin and Drinan do depart, it will be intriguing to see whether Ipswich opt to add to their squad before the window shuts on January 31st for clubs across Europe.
