Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick has told BBC Sport that he was tempted by a move to Barclays Premier League outfit Leicester City in the summer.

McGoldrick was a target for Leicester

McGoldrick was subject to a bid from the Foxes in August after impressing for Ipswich scoring 16 goals in 34 appearances last season.

The 26-year-old has gone on to add a further five goals this season and says he never sought to leave Portman Road. "I wouldn't say my head was turned. I wasn't banging doors or demanding to move," McGoldrick said to BBC Sport.

"But in a job where you have an offer to better your career, you're going to be thinking about it" he said.

McGoldrick started his career at Notts County and joined the Tractor Boys on loan in January last year from Nottingham Forest, and went on to make the move permanent in July. The striker has represented the Republic of Ireland on one occasion but has never played in the Barclays Premier League.

The chance to appear in 'the world's greatest league' was one that certainly tempted him, "Leicester is near home, it's the Premier League, one of my best mates Wes Morgan plays for them."

He continued: "If you got offered a job as a top reporter, you would think about it.

"It would have been a good move for me, but it didn't go through. I never once spat my dummy out and I've knuckled down."

Having stayed at Ipswich, he and his strike partner, Daryl Murphy, have been hailed as the best in the league by team-mate Bartosz Bialkowski.

Whether Leicester are still interested or not, this move by McGoldrick could create an interesting situation come the January window.
