Aston Villa have posted two pictures of Christopher Samba in training with the rest of the first team squad on the club's official Twitter page.

The official Aston Villa Twitter account had earlier reported that Steve Bruce had confirmed that Christopher Samba was set to train with the first team squad in a bid to earn a contract.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after being released by Greek giants Panathinaikos last month and he previously trained with Premier League side Crystal Palace before starting his trial at Aston Villa.

The Congolese international defender has over 100 Premier League appearances from his time with Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers, as well as playing for various European teams such as Hertha Berlin, Anzhi and Dynamo Moscow.

The towering centre half was pictured mingling with his potential new teammates and being put through his paces below.

It remains to be seen whether Bruce will offer Samba a contract with Villa.
