The future of Wayne Routledge at Swansea City past the 2019/20 season is still yet to be resolved, with his contract running out at the Liberty Stadium at the end of the campaign.

The 35-year-old has been at the Swans since 2011, making over 240 appearances for the Welsh side as they enjoyed a lengthy stint in the top-flight of English football before returning to the Championship.

His first-team opportunities have been dwindling this season though, and Cooper faces a crunch call on what to do with the winger.

So, what should Steve Cooper and Swansea do here with Routledge? Extend his deal or look to move him on?

I can see both sides.

On one side I can see them letting him go as he's not played as much as he once did and he's not getting any younger, plus he's probably on a wage that they're increasingly not going to be able to afford.

On the other hand, he's one of the few experienced heads that they've got, he's a real pro and he's a player that knows the club inside out, and I think you need that at every team.

For me, if they can agree a short-term deal that makes financial sense and he's happy to be a squad player and maybe look at helping with coaching or something like that, then they should go for it.

Can you name the stadium of these 40 EFL clubs? Have a go now!

I think it'll depend on what division Swansea are playing their football in next season.

Routledge has been a fantastic servant to the club over the years, and certainly has a role to play in the play-offs, if the Swans are to finish in the top-six this term.

He has a considerable amount of experience under his belt, and will aid the development of the younger players in Steve Cooper's squad that could learn a lot from him.

I'm not convinced that he'd be a good enough option to have if they're promoted into the Premier League though, as they need fresher options that are playing at the top of their game.

But if the Swans are playing in the Championship, then it should be a no-brainer to offer him a new contract for a further year.

I think it's time for them to look to move Routledge on, unless they can strike a really good value deal.

The winger has been little more than a bit-part player this term – adding three goals and four assists in 22 appearances – but he's thought to be one of the highest-paid players at the club (Capology) and that just doesn't make sense given his contributions.

At 35, you'd question how much more he can give the Swans, and on the back of an impressive first season under Steve Cooper, you'd imagine they'll be looking to bolster their options.

That said, if they can secure a good value, cheap and short-term deal, then it is perhaps something they should consider. His experience will be useful and he's shown he can contribute when needed.

It all depends on the value of the deal, if he will take one that's cost-effective I think keeping him could be a smart bit of business. If not, they should get rid.
