Huddersfield Town will not be signing former Wigan Athletic defender Markus Holgersson, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

The Swedish defender had been on trial with Town during their pre-season training camp in Portugal and scored in a 4-1 win over SC Portimonense on Saturday.

But Terriers boss Mark Robins has decided to pass on signing the 29-year-old former Wigan and New York Red Bulls defender.

Robins told The Examiner: “It was good to be able to take a look at Markus, he integrated well into the squad and he did nothing wrong in the games we had.

“In terms of exactly what I’m looking for, though, it’s something slightly different, so I wasn't in a position to offer him anything.”

Speculation continues to increase over Town midfielder Adam Clayton with Middlesbrough said to be keen.
