Semi Ajayi has invested himself in football's greatest debate - who's better? Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi?

It's an argument that's filled football conversation for years, and one that'll do so for many more to come. They've over 1400 goals for club and county between them, ten Ballon d'Ors and countless domestic titles - but who's the best?

The pair have played different careers and the competition is still ongoing, but speaking to www.wba.co.uk, Ajayi weighed-in with his say on the matter:

Messi is the GOAT for me, he makes football look so easy and it seems effortless for him. Growing up I always liked Ronaldo more but Messi just edges it in terms of the GOAT conversation anyway."

Either answer is controversial in the eyes of football fans. Messi is often deemed the more naturally gifted of the two, whilst Ronaldo is recognised as an athlete who's dedicated himself to becoming the best.

Two different players then with different backgrounds, achievements and futures in the game, and one day we'll be without both of them. Ronaldo aged 35 and Messi 32 - realistically there's only a few more years for either of them to settle the debate.

As for Ajayi, although he doesn't score knuckle ball free-kicks or weave past five defenders and chip goalkeepers, he's proving to be a keen signing by Slaven Bilic, and his five goals from centre-back this season has helped the Baggies into promotion contention.

The verdict

Ajayi has become one of West Brom's most reliable players. He's a commander and a leader and should adapt to the Premier League nicely should West Brom secure promotion. Baggies fans love him, but they might not all agree with him in the Ronaldo/Messi debate.
