The 30 year old has committed his future to Sheffield Wednesday despite interest from other clubs in England and abroad. The defender joined Wednesday from Real Zaragoza in December and went onto play 26 times for the Owls in their revival in the second half of the season.

The Dutchman will captain Sheffield Wednesday next season and is relishing the prospect of captaining the Championship club. Loovens has said that it has always been his intention to sign a new contract.

Glenn Loovens told The Star "It took a little longer than expected but I'm happy to have finally put pen to paper and comeback here" He then told the local paper "It's always an honour to be a captain wherever you are. I will lead the guys out and give everything for the fans. I'm proud that he(Stuart Gray) has given me the opportunity."

Loovens started his career in his homeland playing for Feyenoord but after five years left to join Welsh based club Cardiff City. He then went onto play for Celtic and Real Zaragoza before joining the Owls. Loovens has two Netherlands caps to his name.
