Birmingham City are on an extremely slippery slope indeed and after yet another thrashing this weekend, this time by QPR at St Andrews, many supporters have begun to call for Gianfranco Zola's head.

Zola branded the defeat against relegation-threatened QPR as the lowest during his tenure at the club and it's now looking as bad as it's been in years for the Blues, who cannot seem to buy a win for love nor money.

Goals from Matt Smith, Conor Washington, Yacouba Sylla and Yeni N’Gbakoto ensured Ian Holloway’s men left with all three points on a day where the Blues fans, who had been patient to a point, began to turn.

Freshening up the squad with new players hasn't worked, three at the back isn't working and generally, the players don't look as if they are playing for the manager.

So with that in mind, here's three reasons why Gianfranco Zola must leave Birmingham as soon as possible...

The fans won't put up with it

Birmingham City have a hardy group of supporters and they've been through a lot over the past few years after the whole Carson Yeung debacle.

But what they won't and don't deserve is seeing a group of players who seem to have no strategy, struggling to string five passes together in front of their home support.

They deserve better and while it's important to understand Gianfranco Zola's job was a tough one after the sudden departure of Gary Rowett, it's quite simply not working.

Wins aren't coming from any direction

When you're on a poor run, turning in performances that sometimes offer hope and exuberance can be promising for supporters. But against QPR, Birmingham were absolutely dreadful and offered little when it came to dealing with the threat of a decent-looking Hoops side.

But it was all too easy for Ian Holloway's men, who cantered through the Blues midfield with ease at times and it's just not good news in the slightest for Gianfranco Zola.

This could soon turn into a relegation scrap

Birmingham have slipped from the top-six to fourteenth during Gianfranco Zola's tenure at the club, and now, they're just ten points away from the relegation zone.

With a handful of months still to go, this could quickly turn into a relegation scrap if things don't pick up very soon and changing the manager now might be their only option.

Leave it too late and the battle might become too difficult.
