Gary Rowett has revealed that he thinks the season will be pushed back further than April 30th as the wait for the current crisis to subside continues.

As things stand, April 30th is the date in this country when top level football is expected to resume but, that said, it is a date that seems rather subject to change given at least another week of lockdown is expected in this country after this one.

And, for Rowett, the idea that the lockdown could be extended further is one that suggests the season will be delayed further.

He said, via the South London Press:

“We’re back [training] on April 14 and supposedly starting on April 30 but, of course, again we all know the likelihood is that this lockdown will go longer. Not least because of some peoples’ actions within it that are going to extend it. And we’re sat at home, like everyone else, waiting to hear what the plan might be."

The Verdict

There's a real lack of certainty around at the moment and it does seem unlikely that the season is going to resume on the current pencilled in date of April 30th.

Though it would be nice to think that the campaign is going to resume this month, it just doesn't seem possible with the way things are in the country at the moment.

Rowett is likely right here, then, that a further delay could well be on the way before we can get going once more.
