Former Leeds United defender Gunnar Halle could be set for a return to Elland Road, as an assistant to new manager Uwe Rösler.

Halle could be set for a return to Leeds United

The Daily Mail reported that the 49-year-old would be appointed as Rösler's right-hand man, after the former Wigan Athletic manager was confirmed as the new Leeds boss yesterday.

However, in an interview with Norwegian TV station TV2, Halle said that he hadn't yet received an offer from the Yorkshire club.

"It would probably be fun to get an offer and try it out, but we will see what time brings," he said. "But now I have a job with the Football Association and I'm enjoying it."

Should the former Norway international return to Elland Road, it would be the fourth time he has worked under Uwe Rösler in his career - having previously assisted him at Lillestrøm, Viking and Molde.

Halle's experience of working with Rösler leads him to believe that the German manager will be a success at Leeds.

Asked if he thought the former Manchester City star could lead the club back to the Premier League, Halle replied: "Yes, I think so for sure. He did very well at Brentford, and also good at Wigan, although he had to go there.

"Uwe knows the division very well and has a good knowledge of what it takes to lift the club."

"It will be interesting to see how he handles it. There has been much change in recent months after the new Italian owners entered. The challenge for Rösler is to get some stability to the club now."

And Halle, who made over 80 appearances for Leeds between 1996 and 1999, thinks that his former club deserves to be back in the top tier of English football.

"Leeds is a great club, with proud traditions and solid backing from supporters. They are a team that should be playing in the Premier League and I hope that Rösler can build a team that will take them up."
