Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty, who came close to joining the Yorkshire side last year, has raved about the atmosphere at Elland Road for last night's EFL Cup tie, where Leeds advanced to the quarter-finals following a victory in a penalty shoot-out.

Lafferty was an unused substitute in the tie at Elland Road, which incredibly attracted over 22,000 supporters despite the match seeing two Championship sides go head-to-head in a competition which is often regarded as not important.

Posting his post-match thoughts on Twitter, in a message that has since been deleted, Lafferty said: "Unlucky tonight with the result, lads gave it all. What an atmosphere, best I've heard in a while. Obviously except for Northern Ireland and Norwich".

Had things been different last year, Lafferty could have been on the field playing for the home side- but the attempts of former boss Steve Evans to bring the Northern Irish striker to the club proved hapless, with Evans eventually telling the BBC that the financial demands from Norwich and the player himself were too much.

Since then, Lafferty has endured an unsuccessful spell on-loan at Birmingham City and his return to the Canaries in the summer has not resulted in regular first-team action, as Lafferty has started just one match this season and has made five appearances so far.
