Everton have been in discussions with West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan regarding their managerial vacancy following the sacking of Frank Lampard, The Indepdenent's Miguel Delaney has reported.

However, per TalkSPORT, the Spaniard is expected to stay at The Hawthorns after only being appointed as their head coach back in late October to replace Steve Bruce.

Per The Independent's claims, experienced Argentinian boss Marcelo Bielsa, who had Corberan working under him at Leeds United, is still the Toffees' number-one choice, but both parties are said to have reached an impasse with negotiations.

It has led to the Everton hierarchy sounding out other options, with contact reportedly made with ex-boss Sam Allardyce, former Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and also Corberan.

Since being appointed by Albion, Corberan has lost just three of his 14 matches in charge in all competitions and has overseen a rise up the Championship table from the relegation zone and into the top half.

Corberan has picked up 27 points out of a possible 36 in league action which has attracted Everton to his services, but TalkSPORT claim that he looks poised to remain in his current post rather than moving on if an official approach comes.

The Verdict

Corberan has had a fantastic impact at West Brom in the space of three months, so it's no surprise to see Premier League clubs circling.

However, even if he was keen, he could perhaps not walk into a worse job than Everton right now.

There is a toxicity around Goodison Park right now directed at the ownership and with a lack of experience in the top flight, Corberan may not be the right man to save them from the present threat of relegation.

The Spaniard is building something very promising at The Hawthorns right now, and even if Everton were to offer a massive wage increase, it may not be the right move for his career.
