Peterborough United have reached a deal to sign Bristol City's attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics on loan until the end of the season.

The League One club announced the arrival of Szmodics on their official club website, and the 24-year-old will now have the chance to secure some regular game time during the rest of the campaign at Peterborough, with Darren Ferguson's men adding Szmodics to their list of signings made this month having already brought in Jack Taylor and Reece Brown.

Szmodics enjoyed an impressive season last term for Colchester United in League Two, managing to register 14 goals and seven assists, and that form persuaded Bristol City to make a move for the attacking midfielder in the summer, but the 24-year-old has found his game time limited at Ashton Gate due to the form of the Robins' other attacking options.

The attacking midfielder will therefore be looking to impress at Peterborough during the rest of the season, and the 24-year-old could add some extra creativity and goal threat for Ferguson's side, as they look to mount a play-off challenge.

The Verdict

Peterborough were in need of an injection of optimism, with Ferguson's side having gone five matches without a win in League One to drop down to 10th place in the table, and Szmodics' arrival should certainly help them re-find their form with the 24-year-old arriving highly motivated to make an impact during his loan spell.

Szmodics' move to Bristol City has not gone as well as he would have been hoping for at the beginning of the campaign, with Lee Johnson limiting him to just three Championship appearances, due to the form of the club's other options in attack.

However, the 24-year-old has shown his quality consistently over the last few seasons at Colchester, and he could potentially make a real difference for Peterborough, helping to provide some extra service for both Ivan Toney and Mo Eisa and also adding another goal scoring threat.
