Reading goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi has signed a new two-year contract at the club – the official site has confirmed.

Al-Habsi’s new deal runs until the summer of 2019- his former contract was set to expire in July.

The 35-year old has made 25 appearances across all competitions this season and is Reading’s current player of the year.

Royal’s boss Jaap Stam was delighted to secure his man and explained everyone around the club was happy he had signed a new contract.

Stam continued: “As we all know, Ali is a great goalkeeper, a fine shot stopper with good reactions.

“Even at this stage in his career he is still improving his game and becoming better and better as a player.”

The former Manchester United defender went on to say how important Al-Habsi was to the way he wants his team to play out from the back.

The Oman international has helped Reading climb to third in the Sky Bet Championship, as they look for a return to the Premier League.
