Burton Albion have completed the signing of veteran forward Luke Varney from Ipswich Town.

The 34-year old joins Albion on an 18-month contract, just a week before his current 18-month contract at Ipswich ran out.

Varney has tonnes of experience in the Football League and has featured for a host of clubs including: Sheffield Wednesday, Blackpool, Portsmouth, Leeds United and Blackburn.

Brewers’ manager Nigel Clough told the club’s official website how pleased he was with the signing: “He’s a good, experienced Championship player who we hope will help us out in the second half of the season. He plays a few different positions, wide midfield or up front.”

Varney, who has more than 50 goals in the Football League, is understood to have wanted a move back to the area.

Ipswich wished Varney all the best on his move – he has scored three goals so far this season.
