Doncaster Rovers goalkeeper Louis Jones has extended his loan spell at non-league side Mickleover Sports, the League One club have confirmed.

The 20-year-old shot-stopper initially joined Mickleover - who are in the seventh tier of English football - on a one-month loan in September and has now extended his loan spell for another month.

Jones has never made a senior appearance for Doncaster, but has appeared on the bench several times and has spent time on loan at a number of different non-league clubs over the past few seasons.

Ian Lawlor started the season in goal for Doncaster, but was only able to keep one clean sheet. Timothy Dieng has started the last three league matches in goal for Rovers and kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Peterborough.

Doncaster finished sixth in the League One table last season under Grant McCann, but their season ended in disappointment, as they lost on penalties to Charlton Athletic in the play-off semi-finals.

Rovers have made an encouraging start to the new season under Darren Moore and are currently tenth in the table, although they're without a win in their last two league matches.

The Verdict

Jones is a decent goalkeeper, although his lack of experience in League One means that it's unlikely he'll get a chance in the first team at Doncaster this season, so extending his loan spell at Mickleover is probably the best thing for his development.

The fact that the club have deiced to extend his loan spell suggests that he must be doing reasonably well and he'll be determined to continue to impress, in the hope that he can get an opportunity in the team at Doncaster in the future.

He wouldn't have been in and around the team at Doncaster unless they thought he had potential to be a good goalkeeper. He's just got to keep working hard and make sure that he makes the most of the chances he gets while on loan at Mickleover.
