Scott Hogan made a big money move to Aston Villa in the January window, after his goal scoring prowess this season caught the eye of Steve Bruce.

Hogan has had quite a meteoric rise through the leagues in recent years, having been playing for Ashton United just four years ago, he is now playing in front of thousands of fans week in, week out.

After proving he knows where the net is for Rochdale in the 2013/14 season, Hogan earned a move to Championship side, Brentford, who took a chance on Hogan, having just come out of League One.

The chance definitely paid off though, and Hogan netted frequently for the Bees, although his progress had been halted at Griffin Park slightly due to injury.

Hogan has now earned his big move to Aston villa and he is out to prove that he is worth every penny of the huge transfer fee Villa paid.

Here, FLW's Chris Wilson will look at TWO things you probably never knew about Scott Hogan…

Rochdale connections

After studying a Btec national diploma in sports at Salford College, Hogan went on to play in the academy at Rochdale, but he was subsequently released in 2010 without making a first team appearance.

Hogan returned to Spotland in 2013, signing from non-league, Hyde, where he had been for under a year.

Upon his Rochdale return he made his professional debut, netting the first goal as Rochdale beat Hartlepool 3-0.

In the 13/14 season, Hogan was shortlisted for the League Two player of the year award, which caught they eye of Brentford, who signed him the summer after.

Travelling issues

During Hogan's time with Stockbridge Steels, his career looked to be going swimmingly, until a bizarre issue blighted his progress and forced him to leave the club.

Hogan had to leave Stockbridge in 2012 because he began to encounter problems commuting from his home in Warrington to games and training.

At the time, Hogan was striking up quite a partnership with Jack Muldoon, who now plays for Lincoln, but their partnership was brought to end by Hogan's travelling woes.
