Derby County are edging closer to a move to bring Middlesbrough striker David Nugent to the IPro, according to the Sun.
The 31-year-old striker has fell out of favour at the Riverside and Aitor Karanka is keen to let him go as he seeks to strengthen his own squad.
Nugent definitely knows where the net is at Championship level, so he would a shrewd addition by Derby, as they seek a top flight return for the first time since 2008. The Middlesbrough striker has averaged around 15 goals per season in the Championship in recent years and if he could find that form in a Derby shirt, he could be the man to fire them to promotion.
Derby boss, Steve McClaren, clearly isn’t happy with his striking options as Derby have been linked with numerous strikers, including Nugent’s teammate, Jordan Rhodes.
Summer singing Matej Vydra hasn’t hit the heights expected of him and Darren Bent cant score all the goals on his own, which is why McClaren is looking to bolster his striking options.
